In these three sessions, we’ll explore experiential yoga, a path for deepening our engagement with Buddhist teachings, freeing ourselves from conceptuality and emotion, fostering dialogue, and moving towards enlightenment. Then, using this technique, we’ll take a close look at time and reincarnation, further destabilizing our ordinary consciousness. Finally, we’ll get on the quick path to Silicon Valley superintelligence, and see what that may tell us about life and enlightenment.
Friday, February 1; 7-9 PM Nobody Home: Hermes, the Burning House, and the Flashlight with Dr. David Komodo Kittay
We start with a disorientation, opening ourselves to Buddhist teachings that seem to contradict each other. We’ll see what tools have been used in the Buddhist world and in the West to find the wisdom in these teachings, and look at and meditate on experience. We’ll explore how interpretation can create reality, as taught in Buddhist tantra and quantum physics.
Wednesday, February 13; 7-9 PM Time, Quantum Gravity, and Reincarnation with Dr. David Komodo Kittay
We’ll see that neither time nor persons exist. Then we will discuss how then it may nonetheless be possible for persons to reincarnate over time, looking at near-death experiences, past life memories, tantra, and science.
Wednesday, February 27; 7-9 PM Singularity and Simulation: Back Door to Enlightenment? Dr. David Komodo Kittay
We’ll examine the likelihood of superintelligent artificial intelligences, human, silicon, or hybrid. We’ll create a universe or two, and become immortal. We’ll think about what that could mean for us, and for others.
Dr. David Komodo Kittay has been teaching philosophy, religion, and technology at Columbia for the past 10 years, translates exoteric and esoteric Buddhist texts, and founded and teaches philosophy at the Harlem Clemente Course for the Humanities at the Drew Hamilton Houses on 143rd St.
