
This training is based around taking one exercise to exhaustion, rather than using any number of repetitions. This way of training gradually recruits first your slow twitch muscle fibres (which get tired slowly), then your intermediate ones, and then your fast twitch muscle fibres (which are fast to fatigue). These fast twitch fibres are the strong ones, but are also only called into action by your body when there is a strong demand. Walking or jogging wont get to them, for example. It's really important to train all types of fibre for the general health of your body.
